Where Classical Training meets Global Creativity

manos Percussion brings together three classically- trained percussionists—Maria Flurry, Bensen Kwan, and Joshua Ferrell—for a journey through the world of rhythm and sound. Featuring 37 instruments, including water and flowerpots, their performances blend classical precision with creative exploration. With music spanning Afro-Cuban grooves, Basque traditions, calypso, Bach, and Debussy, manos percussion creates an experience for both your intellect and your inner child.

Expect the unexpected as this trio turns everyday objects into instruments and transforms the stage into a vibrant celebration of percussion and the human spirit.

Come see manos percussion live!

January 11, 2025, 11:00- 12:00 at Ruth Street Theater

Thank you for attending manos Percussion Community Lectures Series

Maria demonstrated how combined sounds of water and instruments can be used in music to affect the mood of any composition!

Bensen insightfully taught attendees the history and use of the steel pan in traditional and modern compositions, an instrument unique to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tabago.

Joshua gave a historical account and demonstration of how the drum set began in New Orleans and how it changed over time to express both culture and history.

Following this introduction, we facilitated an interactive question-and-answer session, encouraging community members to express their thoughts and inquiries regarding these instruments and their roles within the classical music genre.

To culminate our experience, audience members had a hands-on exploration of both the water percussion and drum set, inviting participants to tap into their creativity and collaboratively produce music.

Thank you for coming to learn more from our percussion experts! Maria, Bensen, and Joshua enjoyed sharing the love of their instruments with you.

We enjoyed performing for YOU!
